Opportunities and Resources for Enrichment (O.R.E.)
District 146 is committed to providing support to the classroom
teacher in meeting the enrichment and acceleration needs
of all students. As such, the O.R.E. program is guided by
the philosophy that all students need a challenging, rigorous
and enriched curriculum. The beliefs that guide the services
of O.R.E. to all, but especially to gifted and talented students
are:
- Children can be intelligent in many different ways.
- "
A rising-tide-lifts-all-ships" approach to educational activities
and procedures promotes high performance and talent opportunities that
will ensure
the maximum achievement of all students
- Gifted and talented students
have strengths and weaknesses in various areas
- Gifted and talented
students need to have a specialized plan that goes beyond
the typical classroom experience in their area of giftedness.
O.R.E.
Program Outcomes:
As a
result of collaboration between the classroom teacher
and the ORE
facilitator, able learners,
who are clustered within the classroom, receive services.
The acceleration and enrichment considered are based on
individual profiles and pre-assessment data. The outcomes
of this collaboration
will utilize curriculum, activities, and services which:
- Develop
the talent potentials of young people by systematically
assessing their strengths; providing enrichment opportunities,
resources, and encouragement to develop their strengths;
and using a flexible approach to grouping, curricular
differentiation, and school time.
- Develop research skills
and methodology stressing creative
products, problem solving, and critical and logical
thinking;
- Replace dependence and passive learning with
independence and engaged learning;
- Provide programs designed
to help meet the social, emotional, and educational needs
of gifted and talented
students.
