Welcome to Central Middle School –
Home of the Twisters! We are a model middle school that
serves approximately 800 students in the communities of
Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Orland Park. This is a busy
place where students actively engage in a wide variety
of learning activities and strive for excellence.
Our school is organized into teams of
students and teachers to provide a nurturing environment and
exciting opportunities for learning and personal growth. We
offer a challenging and integrated program that strongly
supports our students’ academic, physical, social and
emotional development. Our three-year-old building is
extraordinary and was designed specifically to support our
program. We have grade-level pods of classrooms; fully
equipped science labs, computer labs, gyms, media center and cafetorium (cafeteria-auditorium); and specially designed
Encore classrooms. We have just installed a state-of-the–art
fitness center with cardio and fitness equipment that supports
our Fitness is Central curriculum.
During their three years at Central,
students continue to build a strong foundation in Language
Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies and Physical Education,
and prepare for high school. In their advisories, students
participate in activities and discussions about making good
decisions and developing positive relationships with others.
Our students explore interests and careers through such Encore
classes as: Spanish, French, Clothing, Videography, Computer
Graphics, Industrial Technology, Band, Choir, Guitar, Family
and Consumer Science. We offer numerous extracurricular
activities including: Student Council, competitive and
intramural sports, yearbook, newspaper, peer mediation, and
clubs for science, math, declamation, French, Spanish, chess,
scrabble and APBA baseball. You may have seen our
award-winning band at local parades, our choir performing at a
local senior citizen residence, our students volunteering at
local events, or our students’ work on display in the
community. Our school community benefits greatly by the
partnerships we have established with parents and community
members and institutions. We know that Central Middle School
is central to the lives of our students, families and
communities.
