6th Grade
Exploratory Descriptions and Rotation
Art 1 - Drawing
and Design
Students
learn the principles of design through a variety of
projects. Basic Drawing techniques are introduced through
the creation of abstract design, a perspective city drawing
and an art history-based PowerPoint presentation. Art 1 and
2 focus on the development of skills in creative problem
solving, self-expression and visual communication while
introducing the students to a variety of media, techniques
and ideas. Each project includes an element of
understanding/critical thinking, craftsmanship (neatness,
use of media) and creativity (illustration of original
thought and expression of ideas).
Art 2
Students
will have the experience of working with both clay and
tempra paints. They will create a ceramic animal and
complete a tempra painting. They will study the color wheel
and learn the elements of design.
Art 1 and 2 focus on the

the students to a variety of media, techniques and ideas.

Responsibility Education -(RE)
Students learn decision making, communication and coping
skills. They explore career opportunities and develop an
understanding of personal safety and health issues.
Industrial
Technology - (IT)
Students will study residential construction, and
have the CAD module in the Paxton Action Lab.
Family and
Consumer Sciences - (F&CS)
Students will study foods and nutrition, and a module in the
Family and Consumer Sciences technology lab.
French
The course focuses on speaking and comprehension as students
learn greetings, numbers, colors, days, dates, and time.
A basic study of the geography of France and its surrounding
areas is introduced. French culture is explored in areas
such as eating habits, school routines, shopping, famous
monuments, and festivals and games.
Spanish
Sixth grade Spanish introduces students to basic greetings and
phrases used in basic conversation. Students learn
numbers, colors, the days of the week and months. They
also become familiar with the geography and the various
cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
Music
Students will learn the language of music. Through
creating and performing, they will understand how music is
produced, and its role in civilization, past and present.
Physical
Education / Health - (PE)
Students will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of
physical fitness, knowledge, and understand principles of
health promotion.

classes, but exact schedule will vary. Each class will
