Physical Education

Welcome to the CMS Physical Education/Health web page where…

                                       FITNESS IS CENTRAL

The department’s philosophy is to encourage our students to participate in life long physical activities and to empower them to make responsible and healthy decisions in order to improve the quality of their life.

Our goal is to provide a daily program which promotes a healthy lifestyle.  The students are introduced to and develop the skills and attitudes necessary to reach their individual maximum potential.  To accomplish this, the students will, through a fitness-based curriculum, be involved in activities such as health-related fitness tasks, aerobic and/or rhythmic activities, team-building challenges and individual and team sports.

 Expectations:

To aide in achieving our goal, we have listed some of the expectations for CMS students (the complete list is given to the students at the beginning of the school year so please check with your son/daughter!).

1.  Know and apply the TWISTER TRAITS and you cannot go wrong.  This means you should behave in a peaceful, respectful and responsible manner towards yourself, classmates and teachers.

2.  Abiding by the classroom expectations will not only help you be successful in class but also maintain the safest teaching environment possible.  Therefore report ANY/ALL injuries, no matter how small, immediately to your teacher.

3.  You must be dressed in your own complete P.E. uniform every day.  This includes the CMS gym shirt and shorts (with your LAST name clearly marked on each piece) and gym shoes.

Failure to have a full uniform (or shoes that do not securely stay on the feet) will result in a 3 point deduction from your daily grade.  Your last name must also be written on the back of your CMS P.E. lock in permanent marker.   And, for your safety, jewelry of any kind is not allowed while participating in the gym and/or Fitness Center.

4.  You are responsible for securing your belongings in the locker room.  You have a CMS issued lock (No Non-School Locks Are Allowed) and are responsible for making sure your P.E. items are properly locked up every time you leave the locker room.  DO NOT LEAVE ANY OF YOUR BELONGINGS IN A LOCKER WITHOUT YOUR LOCK ON IT!

Also, do NOT leave your materials on the benches during class time, intramurals, or during extracurricular activities.  We are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

5.  You are required to make up all missed assignments.  It is your responsibility to make sure you check with your teacher for make up work.

6.  You are expected to have the following information written in your assignment notebook:
P.E. lock serial number, P.E. lock combination, and P.E. locker number.

Daily Procedures:

1.  Check the bulletin board daily before entering the locker room.  You are responsible and accountable for all of the information posted!

2.  Once dressed for class, report to the gym according to your teacher’s written instructions.

Upon entering the gym, you will immediately line up in your squads for attendance.  There is to be NO “horse play” as it is unsafe.

Rotation:

The students will have 3 quarters of Physical Education and one quarter of Health.  This means they will switch teachers every quarter.

We are looking forward to a fit and fun-filled year,

Ms Bannes, Miss Heerdt, Mrs. Menter and Mr. Hopman
