The Tumblebooks Library is an online collection of animated, talking picture books. Tumblebooks are created by taking existing books and adding animation and sound to produce an electronic book which children can read, or have read to them. In addition to interactive stories, the Tumblebook Library offers quizzes and games related to the stories in the Library, and provides students with the option to create book reports that can be shared with other Tumblebook subscribers. For older children, TumbleReadables offers a collection of chapter books and classic children’s books. Children can create bookmarks when reading these books and can adjust the size of the print to their comfort level.

Inspiration and Kidspiration are two software programs that are used throughout the District. With the use of Inspiration and Kidspiration, students can create graphic organizers and idea maps to visually represent and organize their ideas. Through these programs students can categorize and group ideas, express and organize their thoughts and comprehend and communicate their learning.

These visual representations deepen a student’s understanding of concepts being learned in the curriculum.  The integrated outlining features of these programs then automatically provide a prewriting structure for students to develop as they plan their writing activities. For younger students, Kidspiration combines pictures, text and spoken words to assist students in representing their thoughts and ideas.

A Podcast is a audio recording that can be played over the Internet.  It is basically radio on the Internet.  Using audio editing software, such as Audacity, students can write scripts, record them and then air them over the Internet to share with their families and the larger community
