Introduction
You are getting ready to
go on a trip back in time. You are the lucky person who gets to discover
what life was like in your community long ago! Your grandma said that there
is an old, dusty leather trunk in her attic. She thinks it might help you
on your journey. When you opened it up, you discovered a photo album
with strange looking black and white pictures. This is an important
tool. What can you find out about the lives of the people from the pictures?
How have things changed since then? Use the pictures to help
you with your discovery.
The
Task
While you look through the photos in the album,
answer these questionns:
-What would your life be
like if you lived long ago?
1.What
would your school be like?
2.What
kind of clothes did you and your family wear?
3.What
kind of toys or games would you play for fun?
4.How
did your family get from place to place?
You will make your own photo album
page that compares your life now to what it would have been like 100 years
ago.
The pictures from the album you
found are in the trunk.
This is where you will get the
clues you need to make your own album page to share with the class.
Your teacher will help you on
your journey by reading books and showing videos that will give you more
clues.
The Process and Resources
To make your photo album page, you will need
to follow these steps.
Don' t worry. You will have 3 travel companions
to help you on your trip.
1. You will be given a special
travel ticket from your teacher. The picture will tell you which part of
life long ago you will be investigating and your group number.
(The picture on your ticket
will let you know which part of the album you will be making. The seat
number is your group number.)
It will tell you what to click
on.
2. Click on the picture of the
key
to begin your search.
3. Click on the links under
the picture that matches your ticket.
4. Look at the photos carefully
from the links under your picture topic.
5. Decide which picture you
like the most. This will be what you will draw. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO
DRAW IT EXACTLY. YOU ARE USING THE RESOURCES AS A GUIDE.
5. Print out your album page
that you will need to compete. Click on the two links under the picture
below. One is for the picture of long ago and the other is for today. A.
You
will have to click "Open it".
B.
Then click "ok".
C.Then
click the picture of the printer.

6. What details about the picture
let you know that the object or person was from long ago? Draw a picture
of the item from long ago. Draw it so that it fills the whole page. (no
tiny pictures please) Be sure to use details and draw carefully.
7. Write at least two
sentences to describe your picture. Your sentence should point out the
differences in the object or person from long ago and today. It should
be a complete sentence neatly written, using capital letters and correct
punctuation.
8. Now draw a picture of what
that same object or person would look like today. Write at
least two complete sentences to describe the important differences in your
drawing.
9. You will have a chance to
meet with your other group members to make a cover for your album.
8. Together you will put together
and present your photo album to the class.
