Introduction
This web quest has been designed to assist 8th Graders in learning more about  immigrants and Ellis Island.  Students will be very interested in learning about the harsh physical and medical examinations immigrants faced upon arrival at Ellis Island as well as the "push-pull" factors that influenced this great wave of immigration into the United States between the years of 1865-1914.
 
 
 

Task

Read the two page article in website listed in the Resource section below.  Scroll through the table located at Exhibits website listed in the Additional Resource section below.  Choose five (5) names from the list and write them on your paper.  Include, from the table, the information regarding their native country, when they arrived , and their field of interest in your selection.  Show your results to your parents, grandparents, or other family members and request their assistance with additional information.

The Process

3.Click on the website located at the Additional Resource section on this page.
4.Randomly choose five names from the list and write them on your paper.
5.From the table next to your selection, include the following:
                                  A)  Information regarding their native country
                                  B)  When they arrived at Ellis Island
                                  C)  Their field of interest
6.Share your responses with your parents, grandparents, or other family members and request their assistance with additional input.
7.Be prepared to share your information with the class.

 Upon completion, students will be assessed by their classmates through an oral presentation during class.
