It's the beginning of May all ready!
Have you heard on the news or radio about the "Cinco de Mayo" activities
in the Chicago area? Do you know what "Cinco de Mayo" is all about?
Well, today we are going to learn about this special day: Where did this
celebration originate? Who celebrates "Cinco de Mayo"? How is "Cinco
de Mayo" celebrated?
The
Task
Using the internet, Spanish I students
will explore "Cinco de Mayo". Each student will
prepare a WORD DOCUMENT
summarizing data gathered about the origin of Cinco de Mayo and its celebration.
Answer the following questions.
1. When and were did Cinco de Mayo originate?
2. Describe the problem that created the conflict.
3. In the conflict who were the two opposing armies? Who were their leaders?
4. From where and when in modern times did the idea come for popularizing the Cinco de Mayo celebration?
5. Who celebrates Cinco de Mayo?
How is it celebrated?
For 10
POINTS EXTRA CREDIT each student will prepare a poster advertising
Cinco de Mayo so that all who read the poster will understand the
meaning of this holiday and how it is celebrated.
