Introduction
It's the beginning of May all ready!  Have you heard on the news or radio about the "Cinco de Mayo" activities in the Chicago area?  Do you know what "Cinco de Mayo" is all about?  Well, today we are going to learn about this special day: Where did this celebration originate?  Who celebrates "Cinco de Mayo"? How is "Cinco de Mayo" celebrated?
 

The Task
Using the internet, Spanish I students will  explore "Cinco de Mayo". Each student will
prepare a WORD DOCUMENT summarizing data gathered about the origin of Cinco de Mayo and its celebration. Answer the following questions.

1. When and were did Cinco de Mayo originate?

2.  Describe the problem that created the conflict.

3.  In the conflict who were the two opposing armies?  Who were their leaders?

4.  From where and when  in modern times did the idea come for popularizing the Cinco de Mayo celebration?

5.  Who celebrates Cinco de Mayo?  How is it celebrated?
 
 

For 10 POINTS EXTRA CREDIT each student will prepare a poster advertising Cinco de Mayo so that all who read the poster  will understand the meaning of this holiday and how it is celebrated.

Type your answers in Word about data collected.  When answers are complete, you may print them out and turn them in.

If doing extra credit poster, comlplete this at home and bring back to school on due date.

Evaluation

Student pair  will receive up to 20 points for their data journal kept on Word during their research.

Each student will receive up to 10 points (extra credito) for his/her poster.
