Web Treasure Hunt

Introduction

You and your partner are pirates. You will hunt for treasure on sites on the Internet.  As you and your partner move from site to site, you will find each treasure.  You will need a pencil and a folder that has both your names on it.



The Task
 

You will learn to use the Internet to help you find information. You will complete the Treasure Hunt activity as directed by your teacher.



Resources

1.  You will double click into Netscape.
2.  You will single click on Bookmarks.
3.  Your teacher will give you the directions for completing
         this project.



The Process

Second Graders:

1. You will bookmark web pages as directed by your teacher.

First and Second Grade Partners:

DAY 1:
You will be assigned a partner. You will work with this person for the whole project.

1.  The second grader will log in.
2.  Double click on Netscape Navigator.
3.  Single click on Bookmarks.
4.  Highlight Arthur, The World's Most Famous Aardvark.
5.  Click on the picture of Sue Ellen.
6.  After you read the screen, click on the red word Bookmarks.
7.  Read the screen and choose a Bookmark by clicking on it.  If you like this bookmark, click on the picture of the printer.  If you don't like it, click on Choose Again.  Keep doing this until you find a bookmark that you like.  Remember, you need to do this two times, so that you both have the bookmark that you want.
8.  Write your name on your bookmarks and color them.  Save your bookmarks in your folder.

DAY 2:

1.  The first grader will log in.
2.  Double click on Netscape Navigator.
3.  Single click on Bookmarks.
4.  Click on Seussville.
5.  Click on Games.
6.  Go to Connect the Dots.  Click on The Cat in the Hat.
7.  Print two copies of Connect the Dots with the Cat in the Hat.
8.  Write your names on the papers, connect the dots, and put   your papers in your folder.
 

DAY 3:

1.  The second grader will log in.
2.  Double click on Netscape Navigator.
3.  Single click on Bookmarks.
4.  Click on Enchanted Learning.
5.  Click on Animal Printouts.
6.  Click on any letter of the alphabet.  Scroll down and pick an animal.  Click on the animal's name.  Print a copy. Have your partner do the same thing for a different animal.
7.  Write your names on your papers.  Read about your animals and color their pictures.  Put your pictures in your folder.
 

Day 4:

1.  The first grader will log in.
2.  Double click on Netscape Navigator.
3.  Single click on Bookmarks.
4.  Click on Fun Brain.
5.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Games.
6.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page to Extra.
7.  Click on the game Oddball.
8.  Read the rules, click on Animals, and play the game.  Take turns choosing the correct answer.  When you finish playing, write your score under the word Animals on your worksheet. Click on Start Over at the bottom of the page.  Read the rules again, click on Shapes, and play the game.  Take turns choosing the correct answer.  When you finish playing, write your score under the word Shapes on your worksheet. Put your paper in your folder.
9.  Make your pirate hats and wear them to turn in your folder to your teacher.



Evaluation

1.  The activity sheets in your folder will show that you have completed each project.  There will be a sheet for you to check off each activity as you complete it.
2.  Your teachers will be watching to see how well you work with a partner.  There will be a rubric to be completed by the teachers and by you.



Conclusion

You have learned the computer skills of logging in, using a mouse, accessing the Internet, and using the Internet to complete a task.  You have also had practice in learning how to work with a partner.
